At LML, our combined years of experience of funding and insuring group litigation means that we have an intimate understanding of the stresses and strains of group litigation in the UK.
With so many players on the same team (multiple claimants, solicitors, counsel, insurers, experts etc), the individual client often gets left behind. LML keeps the interests of the claimants at the forefront all of the time.
The Team

Experience
LML’s principals’ experience comes out of insurance and finance. We have innovated in legal expenses insurance, funding and ATE and have been involved in high profile group actions such as Claims Direct shareholders, Equitable Life Trapped Annuitants and Alder Hey (organs case).
BEN HAWKINS
- Managing Director
Ben Hawkins qualified as a solicitor in 1999. Having practised as a litigation solicitor for six years, he was a pioneer of after the event insurance, launching DAS' ATE Insurance division (previously 80e) in 2000. He has subsequently enjoyed success developing innovative solutions for the legal profession, notably with Composite Legal Expenses (funded solutions for personal injury claims), Shop4Law (internet marketing) and LexisNexis (information and software solutions). He joined A2J as Director in April 2010 and has led the expansion of LML's management activities since January 2013.

PETER BLACKMORE
- Director
Peter has an LLB degree and qualified as a solicitor in 1970 and worked for ten years in the corporate finance department of a merchant bank based in London. In 1980 he joined The Legal Protection Group as Technical Director and also as a Director of its newly incorporated subsidiary Directors & Officers Ltd which specialised in the provision of directors' and officers' liability insurance. Peter was Managing Director of Directors & Officers Limited and Professional Liability Brokers Limited, a Lloyd's broker.

BRIAN RAINCOCK
- Consultant
Brian started in Legal Expenses Insurance [LEI] in 1977 with the introduction of the completely novel Employers Protection Insurance scheme. Since then, he has specialised in all areas of LEI and liability insurances such as Directors & Officers and Professional Indemnity. He formed what is now A2J in 1992, pioneered litigation funding there and incorporated CLFL in 2006 specifically to promote this emerging product. Brian has been an active member of the Lord Chancellor's/DCA/Ministry of Justice Working Party on ATE Insurance and Third Party Funding and attends the Civil Justice Council [CJC] Costs Forum. He is a member of the Chief Executives Committee formed by the CJC.

RICHARD SHEEHAN
- Consultant
Richard is a barrister and has an MA in Business Law. He also qualified as a Mediator at the Academy of Experts. A Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, he worked as an insurance broker since 1963, specialising in financial institutions for over 30 years. He was a Director of HSBC Insurance Brokers Limited and Chairman of the Financial Institution Division. Retiring from HSBC in 2005 he formed his own insurance consultancy joining the Access to Justice group as a Director in 2007.
